Week 8: Refactoring SQL, prepping for practice project and new visuals
Between organising a country move and work, I managed to put out content on my favourite dbt topic!
Part of the “Mastering dbt” series. Access to the full Study Guide. Let’s connect on LinkedIn!
We’ve entered Checkpoint 3 and it covers my favourite part of Certified Developer Learning Path: refactoring SQL.
There is something very satisfying about fixing a mess of entangled selects and making the code slicker. I get a real kick out of it!
I’m moving countries this week, hence the single study note added, but there was some exciting behind-the-scenes changes too!
Study notes added:
The only one you need! A step-by-step guide to refactoring, including strategies to be used.
A full list of the study notes is available in the study guide.
Practice project - Checkpoint 3
Work has begun behind the scenes to make this happen.
I’m having ChatGPT create a messy, long SQL script using our dataset that we can practice our refactoring skills on. The script is live on my GitHub feature branch, if you want to get a head start.
New visuals and identity!
Whilst organising a country move, I managed to find a bit of time to make this project more concise visually. I reframed the series name to “Mastering dbt” and created a simple visual identity for the posts.
Already looking more professional! I’m excited to see the new shapes this project will take in the future!
Have the study notes been useful to you so far? How are you getting on with your self-paced learning journey? I would love to hear from you here or on LinkedIn!
